Who we are

Content Marketing Cycle (“we”, “us”, “our”) runs https://contentmarketingcycle.com/ (the “Site”). The Site is operated by Skylark Virtual Services, company number 14010404, registered office 11 Purton Wood View, Telford, TF3 2NB, United Kingdom. We are the data controller for the personal data described in this policy.

You can contact us at angela@skylarkvirtualservices.com.

What personal data we collect and why

  • Newsletter signups. When you join our email list through a form on the Site we collect your email address. We use it to send you the free toolkit or guide you asked for, and to send occasional emails with new guides, tips and updates.
  • Comments. If you leave a comment, we collect the details in the comment form, plus your IP address and browser user agent string to help detect spam. An anonymised string created from your email address (a hash) may be sent to Gravatar to check whether you have a profile picture. If you do, and your comment is approved, your picture is visible next to your comment. Gravatar’s privacy policy is at automattic.com/privacy.
  • Messages you send us. If you contact us, we keep your name, email address and message so we can reply.
  • Purchases. Our products are sold through our online shop, which runs on Shopify. Shopify and its payment providers process your order and payment details. We do not see or store your full card details. We receive the order information we need to fulfil your order and provide support.
  • Site usage data. We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the Site. This collects information such as your IP address, device and browser type, the pages you visit and how long you stay.
  • Cookies. See the cookies section below.

We do not collect sensitive categories of personal data, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16.

Our email newsletter

We only email you if you have signed up and agreed to receive our emails. Our emails are sent using Brevo, which stores your email address and records whether emails are delivered and opened. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of every email, and we will stop emailing you. We keep your email address on our list until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. We may remove subscribers who have not opened any of our emails for 24 months.

Cookies and analytics

Cookies are small text files stored on your device. We use strictly necessary cookies to make the Site work. If you leave a comment, you can choose to save your name, email address and website in cookies so you don’t have to fill them in again. These last for one year. With your consent, we also use cookies for analytics (Google Analytics) and, where we show ads, advertising. When you first visit the Site, we ask for your consent to non-essential cookies, and you can change your choice at any time using the cookie settings on our Cookie Policy page, which also lists the cookies we use.

Advertising and affiliate links

We may show display advertising on the Site or include affiliate links. If we do, advertising partners may use cookies and similar technologies to show ads and measure how they perform, and we will only set these cookies with your consent. If you click an affiliate link and buy something, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you, and the merchant or affiliate network may set a cookie on your device to record that you came from our Site. Where we use these, the partners involved will be listed in our Cookie Policy, and their own privacy policies govern what they do with your data.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this Site may include embedded content such as videos or images. Embedded content from other websites behaves in the same way as if you had visited that website. These sites may collect data about you, use cookies, add their own tracking and monitor how you interact with the embedded content, including if you have an account with them and are logged in.

Our legal basis for using your data

  • Consent: for our newsletter and for non-essential cookies (analytics and advertising). You can withdraw consent at any time.
  • Contract: to fulfil orders you place with us.
  • Legitimate interests: to reply to your messages, handle comments, detect spam, keep the Site secure and prevent fraud or abuse.
  • Legal obligation: where we must keep records, for example for tax purposes.

Who we share your data with

We do not sell your email address. We share personal data only with service providers who help us run the Site and our business, including:

  • Brevo (email sending and list management)
  • Shopify (our online shop and payments)
  • Google (analytics)
  • Automattic (Gravatar)
  • Antispam Bee (comment spam detection)
  • Lyrical Host (website hosting)

If you request a password reset on an account, your IP address is included in the reset email. We may also share information where the law requires it or to protect our rights. We may share anonymous, aggregated statistics about Site visitors.

Transfers outside the UK

Some of our service providers are based outside the UK, including in the United States and the European Economic Area. Where your data is transferred, we rely on safeguards such as UK adequacy regulations, the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum, or equivalent standard contractual clauses, so that your data is protected to a similar standard.

How long we keep your data

  • Newsletter data: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it, or until we remove inactive subscribers as described above.
  • Comments and their details: kept so we can recognise and approve follow-up comments. You can ask us to delete your comments and the data attached to them at any time.
  • Messages you send us: for as long as needed to deal with your enquiry, then 12 months.
  • Order records: for as long as the law requires us to keep them for tax and accounting purposes.
  • Analytics data: for the retention period set in our Google Analytics account, currently 14 months.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

  • be told what personal data we hold about you and get a copy of it;
  • ask us to correct anything that is wrong or incomplete;
  • ask us to delete your personal data;
  • ask us to restrict how we use your data;
  • object to us using your data where we rely on legitimate interests;
  • receive your data in a portable format, where it applies;
  • withdraw your consent at any time, for example by unsubscribing from emails.

To use any of these rights, email angela@skylarkvirtualservices.com. We will respond within one month. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint. We would appreciate the chance to put things right first.

Residents of the US and other regions

If you live in a US state with a consumer privacy law, such as California, you may have the right to know what personal information we collect and why, to request a copy, to ask us to correct or delete it, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information for targeted advertising. We do not sell your email address. Where advertising or analytics cookies are used, you can opt out through our cookie settings or by emailing us. We will not treat you differently for using these rights. We will respond to requests within 45 days.

If you live in the EU, you have similar rights under the GDPR, including the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

Security

We take reasonable steps to protect your personal data, including using secure connections (HTTPS) and limiting who can access our systems. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last changed. If we make significant changes, we will tell you by email or with a notice on the Site.
